Simulation for Allied Health
Allied HealthHealthcare education is entering a new era in the Texas Panhandle area, thanks to the collaborative efforts of Amarillo College, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and West Texas A&M University. These institutions have teamed together to provide Amarillo and the surrounding area, a Simulation Healthcare Education Center known as SimCentral.
Simulation Education uses highly sophisticated computerized human patient mannequins to simulate emergency medical conditions such as cardiac arrest, shock, unusual diseases and even birth. Medications can be administered and these human simulators can be programmed to display human reactions to various medical scenarios, with the ability to have in various settings and conditions.
The innovative use of human patient simulators enhances the educational programs and experiences available to all fields of Allied Health. Disciplines of Allied Health that can and do benefit from SimCentral are Respiratory Therapy, Emergency Medical Technicians, Paramedics, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, and the list goes on.
